Given his life-changing experience in business school, Gary Li joined Square One Prep to help others attend the business school best equipped to make their dreams – professional and otherwise – come true. Given Gary’s own non-linear background, and his time spent exploring both full-time and alternative programs, Gary is well-equipped to speak to the considerations of all types of business school options. Additionally, Gary is a firm believer that the introspection required and self-discovery harnessed during the MBA application process fuels growth. He is pragmatic, yet creative, at connecting the dots of his clients’ journeys and helping them craft their professional and personal narratives.
Gary began his career as an M&A analyst at Houlihan Lokey, in its Aerospace, Defense, and Government Services Investment Banking group. After two years, he joined his family’s company, which is in the commercial foodservice equipment space, to oversee as product development and sourcing. In 2015 he founded his own company, an ecommerce business focused on direct-to-consumer sales of products for the home and commercial kitchen and tabletops.
Gary is a graduate of Columbia Business School, having completed its Executive MBA program. He also holds his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Georgetown University, double majoring in Finance and International Business, with a minor in Government. Today he volunteers as an undergraduate admissions interviewer for Georgetown University.
Gary lives in New York City. He speaks, reads, and writes Mandarin Chinese fluently. In his spare time, Gary enjoys traveling, particularly internationally, and reading and expanding his knowledge base. He’s also working diligently to learn to play the guitar to complement his desire to expand his opportunities to sing outside just the shower or at karaoke bars.
